It's fascinating to see some new ideas cropping up, and also to see some old ideas being discussed again. I do, however, want to remind people that, having invested five years in getting this software to a point where it doesn't crash too often :) I'm probably not going to consider changes that would require substantial new code. Winter rules and pirates probably both fall under that heading. They're the kind of thing that, if it was going to be done, probably should have been in the original design. Neat as they are, it's probably not worth adding them at this time.
In response to a question I received some time ago, but wasn't able to address until now, I have looked at the NWOL code and discovered a fairly serious error in the scoring system. The problem is technical, but has to do with the way that units with batteries are handled in calculating laurel point awards. The program undercalculated the sizes of units with batteries, meaning that not enough laurel points were awarded for defeating them in battles.
So I saw that "Weather" is now an option on this web site, and I typed "Austerlitz" hoping it would tell me that it was sunny - but it got no result. I think this is a bug.
:)
Haven't tried Friedland yet.
Discussion seems to be slowing down. In the next (I hope) 48 hours I will pull together a list of changes to be made for NWOL-3 and post that as a new topic for comments.
