Spanish Main Score chartSpanish Main Score chartSince builds and subsequent transport across the Atlantic took time, the somewhat limited fighting that took place in the first (Spring) campaign was conducted by at-start forces already in the Caribbean. This was characterized by small scale frigate conflicts, raids on ports, and a great deal of reconnaissance by roving ships. All of these components were very conducive to some early Pirate successes, which bristled some majors into action as the campaign moved on. Spain was the first to act decisively (and they took the lead in T9/T10) with back-to-back invasions of Pirate strongholds at Nassau and Port Royal that crippled the Anarquia Pirates.

But activity really took off in the Summer, and the British were at the forefront. They took Surinam from France, Tortuga from the Haven Pirates, and Maracaibo and Santa Marta from Spain. The Spanish tried to hold the English off by snagging the British port at Dominica and St. Martin from the Dutch, but in the end they could not keep pace. Holland and the Haven Pirates battled for third, although every team outside of the top two finished with a negative score.
