The Guild Registry will be a unique feature of the HOLF Players' Guild Forum. When completed, the Registry will contain a member list and will provide an updated player profile for each member. This profile will document the game history, individual achievements and guild honors and awards, and all other related information.
A key component of the Registry is the Guild Registry Application. The answers from this form, along with some possible information gleaned from the past Guild Registry, will be used to populate a database accessible to Registry and HOLF administrators. This database will be used to proceed with the earliest stages of the Registry construction, the member list. The first Guild award to be approved, the "Guild Battle Star," is an original Guild honor that will be awarded for every major action that a member takes part in during a game (involving at least 10,000 troops, nominated by allies, and approved by an opponent and the Guild Administration). The Guild is presently taking nominations for Battle Stars under the "Players' Call" topic in the Officers' Club. A preliminary "Revised" Guild Ranking system has been sent to the Guild Commission for further input. In addition, several new awards/honors are being finalized by Guild and HOLF administrators and will be announced to the membership as soon as they are official.
ALL GUILD MEMBERS CAN DO THEIR PART IN THIS REGISTRY CONSTRUCTION BY COMPLETING THE GUILD REGISTRY APPLICATION AND ENCOURAGING OTHERS TO DO THE SAME. The form can always be found underneath the Primary Links heading on the right side of any page on this website. After you have completed the Registry Profile form, it will be saved and accessible to you to view, edit, or delete in the future by clicking on the Players' Guild Registry Profile link and choosing the "View your previous submission" option.
Guild Registry construction
Matt,
I have a couple of questions. First I was wondering what was wrong with the existing ranking system? The only problem I can see with it is that it seems to be used for nothing. Perhaps what needs to be revised is the addition of employment for the existing system.
Secondly, a few of us received awards under the old system. I'm awfully proud of mine. They even came with ribbons designed I expect by Murray Hill. What is to become of them?

Re: Guild Registry Construction
Jim,
Not sure what you mean by addition of employment (perhaps linking certain game roles to rank?)
The ranking system criteria (and the associated player ranks on the original Guild member list) has a structure based on the August, 2002 game-playing model. In some ways, it does not take into account the last six years. The criterion are based on a time-frame when BLADD, CWOL 1-5 , MD, and Summer Games 2002 (8 total games I think) were the only games considered. I'm pretty sure that CWOL 6 & 7, NWOL 1 and 2, other special games, and (definitely) R&D games were not counted when these criteria were generated. In some cases they had not happened yet. It takes completion of 3-4 HOLF games under the existing rules to be "eligible" for Mentor ranking (one of the highest). Since the time the rankings were generated, there have been an additional 8-9 HOLF games played (or that were never accounted for in the original rankings, like the Red River 1999 Campaign). This assumes that both the NWOL and WBTS R&D/Beta tests are counted as one game. In reality, we played multiple scenarios and games with both systems (I was a French player, a Swiss player, and then a British player in successive NWOL Beta test games). In my mind, the rankings should represent more of a totality of the HOLF playing experience (and the 17 HOLF games played to this point).
Let's use me as an example. I joined in 2005, and have played NWOL I, NWOL II, and both the WBTS and NWOL test games. I've played every NWOL Minister role, and all but President in WBTS. So I've played 4 of the 17 HOLF games, and nothing from the BLADD or SAS/CWOL era (nor any of the four special games). According to this profile, I am eligible (with Commission approval) for all but the "Master" rank. Really? Because I just learned that cliffs blocked movement (or even existed in NWOL) last game. And I just found out that terrain does not block diagonal tactical movement in NWOL, only units do. And let's not even get into PATE. I am still learning the last two game systems of HOLF, and I never even played the previous ones. I sure don't feel like a HOLF Mentor? I'm not sure I would be considered a NWOL or WBTS Mentor rank, so definitely not a HOLF one. Per the HOLF Board of Directors, the median rank should fall somewhere between cadre and officer. Under the existing ranking system, the median would be much higher.
ALL existing ribbons, awards, honors, and distinctions will be transferred over to the new awards/honors pages on this Site. No awards are being gotten rid of. If you earned it previously, it will be displayed on your "awards page." Every member account (or at least those who fill out the Guild Registry Application) will be updated (since the last updates to the awards page were around the time of CWOL5) with any "newly" earned awards/honors. Members who have joined since August 2002 will have awards pages created based on their player information. In addition, a handful of new awards (and those ribbons) will be added to the existing awards structure (an Instructor Ribbon, for instance) to better represent the different aspects of HOLF service. By the way, I think John Sanders was responsible for (at least some of) the previous ribbon construction. He is closely monitoring all aspects of this large project - which is still in it's early stages.
