Software development for CWOL

HOLF just completed its first user test of its developmental software suite (modelled after GITM) for CWOL(Civil War OnLine).

Rolling of the Drums (ROTD) is currently in full Beta testing and looks promising to complete its developmental cycle in 2010 and be ready for its first large user-base Beta Test in 2011. Currently, participants who are supporting the limited Beta tests are by invitation only. However, confidence in a successful completion of this software suite is high enough that an announced schedule for development is now ready for release.

ROTD development schedule (as of 12 Sept 2009):

  • Naval module test in winter 2010 ( pending course of NWOL-3
  • Multiple-campaign game in summer or fall 2010 (limited player test group)
  • First possible large user test of the full game software suite, spring 2011

Based on a revised strategic plan for HOLF events & activities -- the naming conventions for CWOL & NWOL will be revised. Because there will possily be multiple software engines to drive gaming events in the two premier HOLF activities: Napoleonic Wars OnLine & Civil War Online -- the terms CWOL & NWOL will denote the activity or era being protrayed in the HOLF event. The software game engine, currently there is the GITM / RAR / PATE / SOW suite for NWOL and WBTS or ROTD for CWOL, is a separate enitity for each event and the software packages in use by HOLF will have a unique designation. This will aid in being more definitive about the nature of each game event as some players do not play all software drivers used by HOLF.

In the spirit of full disclosure, the grand tactical software engine for CWOL events -- WBTS ( War Between the States) is off-line as its developer, MALCOM Lmt of Australia, does not have the required time in 2009 to finish its re-design requirements. More information as things develop.

CWOL- WBTS

I HOPE that Mal Grey finds the time in 2010 to complete his revision of this great game.

CWOL's new direction on game

Hi all this could be a good step, for it will allow us a better picture of what is around us, and movement. This will also stop ironclads from ending up in fields of green. and Inf being stuck on boats. I put my hat in the ring for beta testing if anyone needs. I will miss muzle flash though for I liked having something more than a map to look at, but if this helps complete a full game then so beit. Later all Gordon and Mcgraph I give you guys a shout out get that poll cat!
