Dateline, Stockholm ... His Majesty Gustav Bjorn, having taken personal control of all Swedish Ministries last year in order to expedite the implementation of certain governmental and military modernizations, appointed a replacement for some of those positions yesterday.  Count Mats Ludvig Von Majewski was named the new Swedish War and Naval Minister today, in a move that many government officials anticipated.  The King had previously named Von Majewski his top military Advisor and both men are said to share very similar philosophies for conducting warfare in this day and age.  "The Count understands Gustav's vision for Sweden in the years to come," said a source familiar with the appointment details.  "And he will personally see to it that a hard-hitting and modernized military is organized - on land and at sea - that will allow Sweden to project influence beyond our borders should it be needed."

Dateline...Berlin - King Gustav Bjorn visited parts of the beautiful Prussian capital today having finalized a Treaty of Friendship and Non-Aggression with Prussia last night.  The King will travel to Stralsund later today before returning to Stockholm on the morrow.

Dateline...Rome - Our Italian correspondent, Enrico Papparrazi, provides this report - "As I travel across Germany and Italy on my trek to open our newest Post bureau in Venezia, I have already received reports from more than one fragmented state official along the way that the current Hapsburg diplomatic approach has left some leaders uncertain (and somewhat unhappy) about their own security.  This surprising revelation, if true, means that a definite political opportunity exists for other major European powers to achieve diplomatic footholds in these areas.  While I am not sure if anything will come of this posturing, I note that I have passed by a French diplomatic envoy who was reportedly heading to a fragmented state that borders Hapsburg territory.

Meet Your Minister ... Stralsund bureau chief, Hans Tomas Brokaw, fills Post readers in on the new appointee...Count Mats Von Majewskiberg was born, the youngest of five children, just outside of Stralsund, Pomerania in 1761 to a minor Swedish nobleman and his politically connected Danish Countess wife.  Count Mats Ludvig Von MajewskibergCount Mats Ludvig Von Majewskiberg Upon his graduation from the Royal Swedish Maritime Academy in 1776, Von Majewskiberg nonetheless lobbied for and was granted a position in the Swedish Army near the conclusion of the Seven Years War.  The Count distinguished himself multiple times as a cavalry officer in the ensuing years, rising quickly up the ranks until a particularly crippling war wound left one leg irreparably damaged.  Unwilling to accept his physical impairment, Majewskiberg returned to his naval roots and through much effort secured a Naval Frigate Commission.  This began a somewhat meteoric rise up the Naval chain of Command by the Count.  Promoted to Fleet Admiral in 1788, he won wide acclaim for his combined operations leadership (land-and-sea) during portions of Gustav III's Russian War (1788-1790).  Von Majewskiberg is considered well schooled in combined military tactics, and in particular seaborne invasions, and is a member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences.  His eldest brother, Markus, was recently confirmed as the King of Denmark (through an uncovered direct familial connection), although the Counts ties to the throne are very remote.
