Treaty of Nuernberg, 1793
The states of Bavaria, Hesse, Sachsen, and Switzerland, seeking the
seecurity and continued sovereign independence of all states in Germany,
and the general peace of Europe, do hereby agree:
1. That it is their collective policy to seek to avoid war in Germany by
all reasonable means;
2. That if war begins in Germany despite their efforts, they shall seek
to avoid entanglement therein;
3. That they shall not permit the forces of any nation at war to use
their soil or resources in the conduct of that war;
4. That they shall refrain from aggressive acts against one another;
5. That an attack by any other state upon any one of them shall be
regarded by the others as an attack on all, and the armed forces of
all shall assist the state attacked.
Hessian violation of the terms of the treaty
The Sachsen government has been informed that French troops are passing through Hessian lands on their way east. As the Sachsen Electorate and the Kingdom of Bavaria are currently at war with France, this is a violation of the third article of the agreement and could be considered a violation of the fourth article as well. We, therefore, declare the treaty to be broken with Hesse.
The Sachsen government wishes to retain the terms of the agreement with the Kingdom of Bavaria and remain actively allied with the faithful and honorable Bavarians at this time.
