The Black Tulip No.3

Salty Fish Licorice Takes Paris by Storm

Paris--Hering Drop, that most beloved salty fish licorice long a staple in Holland, has become the most popular candy choice in Paris overnight. Dutch merchants are smiling this week as their profit margins have expanded exponentially with the demand as sales are up 300 percent. Large crowds of French elite, at least those who haven't yet lost their heads, were seen crowding the markets this morning to buy up the latest shipments of Hering Drop that just arrived from Amsterdam. The black gold has also become a favorite of the French Army, prompting many troops to spontaneously march into Holland today to purchase their own licorice. Rumor has it that the shortage of licorice in Berlin, widely believed to be a result of the shift to French markets, prompted the Prussian announcement of a trade embargo against France and Holland.

Yummy little peacemakers

If the truth be known, France and Holland were at brink of war when a Dutch spy was seized on the streets of Paris.
He was posing as a merchant and had a cart filled with cheeses, tobaccos, wooden shoes, tulip bulbs and several boxes of salted licorice fish candy.
The enraged citizens broke into his stock and passed around the candy. Officials were called in and shared in the bounty. Half of them began to vomit, but the other half agreed it seemed to be "heaven-sent."
Investigations started.
Questions were asked: "How could such a delight come from a people who were not delightful in and of themselves?"
A treaty was signed, an alliance was created - and now the demand for salty fish licorice candy is the rage of the continent.

I have it on good authority that Prussia has sent fast cavalry and infantry support to Berg to seek out this delicious treat!

I have some crowns in my pocket. I wish to purchase 5 kilos!
