Hannover Broadsheet - spring 1793

From the Headquarters of The Army of the Coalition.

Hannover is Saved!

Our Elector today requested that all the church bells in the Electorate be rung, in thanksgiving for the glorious victory of our arms on the field of Molbergen. Together with our valiant allies of the Coalition, the soldiers of Hannover under the command of General Mackay, have defeated an army of 50,000 French and Dutch invaders. Such was the destruction inflicted, that the enemy was not only routed, but utterly destroyed in the field.

It is also requested that prayers be offered up for the souls of our fallen heroes, and especially for those men of the valiant Danish 1st Division, whose noble sacrifice is said to have made possible this great victory. To quote General Mackay. "Twas indeed a Cannae, as crushing a victory as could be imagined. But twould not have been possible had the Danes not held the line until the Mecklenbergers and Prussians moved up on the flanks to complete the encirclement. We owe much to those brave men. But nothing may be done without almighty God's help. For surely his invisible hand is seen in the enemy's decision to advance with unguarded flanks. We can take no credit for that blunder."

Let all the people rejoice! For surely our cause is just, and our sacred soil will soon be entirely free of the vile invaders, and we will repay them in kind for their depredations.
