Den Stockholm Post: Sweden, Scandinavia, and all of Europe brought directly to you!
Den Stockholm Post editors were able to confirm from independent sources this evening that the Swedish Foreign Ministry has received a letter from their counterparts in Paris regarding the possibility of a much stronger relationship between the two sides. The note came as something of a surprise to officials in Stockholm for a number of reasons. The French have never taken the opportunity to present any diplomatic credentials to the noble King Gustav Bjorn or his Foreign Ministry since the Republican revolutions took place in Paris. Indeed, it seems French FM Pierre Lebrun is not alone in this regard. "To our knowledge, no Frenchman in any sort of official capacity has previously attempted to contact Swedish representatives since their bloody takedown of the Bourbon monarchy many months ago," said a well-connected source within the Foreign Ministry in Stockholm. "We found this sort of behavior to be quite interesting for a nation seeking to achieve some sort of legitimacy from the rest of Europe after the disturbing way in which they rose to power. And especially with the loquacious reputation that precedes Msr. Lebrun." While Post editors have been unable to obtain the letter in question, our source indicates that the French took "some serious shots" at their English adversaries, and painted a decidedly rosier picture of the battlefield situation in Germany and for France's long term prognosis. "It was a very cordial missive, but Lebrun wasted no time in going right after England, and specifically at how the British have classified their current relationship with Sweden to third-party Foreign Ministers. They also lambasted the supposed Austro-Prussian alliance, Austrian foreign policy in general, and downplayed their previous losses in Germany and at sea as small setbacks in the large scheme of things."
After multiple requests by Post reporters for a comment on the supposed French letter and rumored English classifications of Sweden as "essentially" a puppet of Great Britain, His Majesty (who handles all Swedish diplomatic dealings) authorized the following press release just moments ago. "The Swedish government cannot comment on the purported existence of any diplomatic correspondence from Paris, or any other European capital for that matter, as doing so might undermine potential diplomatic efforts now or in the future. I will take this opportunity to note that it has been the long-standing policy of the Swedish Foreign Ministry to never respond to any sort of correspondence from a nation with which we have no formal relations. And when it comes to both the Republicans and the Bourbon Monarchy in absentia, quite simply we have had no formal relations. As to the second line of questioning, I must reiterate that Sweden is extremely concerned about the possibility of a Republican government in Hannover. While some foreign leaders might erroneously conclude that we Swedes are nothing more than an English puppet because of this concern, it is absolutely clear that on the subject of pressing matters like Hannover the Swedish government has and will continue to pursue it's own interests."
