The country mourns the loss of its leader.
The country is in a state of mourning after it was announced today that Johann Adolf Freiherr von Thielmann succumbed to his injuries following a fall from his horse. A state funeral is expected to be held later in the week but the details have not yet been determined. Graf Ferdinand von Funck has been named Regent and acting ruler of the country.
War with Hesse
Generalleutnant Graf von Funck returned to Dresden yesterday at the head of a long cavalry column. Following his return, the Graf’s office issued a statement that the positions of Minister of Finance and Minister of War would be combined as a single title of Minster of State. The change comes only days after a declaration of war was issued against Hesse after it was learned that the Hessians had violated the terms of the Nürnburg Treaty by allowing French troops to pass through their lands. Graf von Funck is expected to leave the city shortly to take command of the Sachsen army now marching west to war.
