Incredible news reached the correspondent of the DAS WIEN ZEIDEN in Villeneuve yesterday...The Swiss still hold the Alps pass at Orsieris, between Switzerland and Sardinia.
After evading three converging armies in Torino, losing a skirmish against Italian forces in Villeneuve (but retreating in good order), having their passage to Geneva blocked by the Austrians at Orsieris, the Swiss held their ground against an Austrian/Italian assault although at a very high cost.
As 18,000 Austrians and Italians prepare for a renewed assault from both the N and S sides of the pass, 3,500 undefeated Swiss (the remains of the 20,000 army which invaded Sardinia) brace themselves for what can be Widmar's last stand.
