Hannibal

Do you have any elephants with your army? Your recent march was most ambitious.

Von Gottes Gnaden König von Preußen

Obliging

You asked not to have to wait too long for us. We were just trying to be obliging. Due to the nature of things, our rookies experienced some minor technical difficulties, otherwise the map would look a little different.

Hannibal was a great general. While I appreciate the comparison, I am in no position to be put in that man's class. You can only hope I did not find a way to sneak elephants or any other weapons of mass destruction onto the playing field!!

Regards,

Carl

Elephants

With our modern pikes and matchlocks, we would have little to fear from elephants. I was simply asking because if you had some, they would make a kingly gift once we had captured them.

Don't make me change my alias to Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus.

Von Gottes Gnaden König von Preußen

King of the Alias

I figured you already had that one in your book somewhere. With all the names, awards and titles that you throw around nothing would surprise me.

We were fairly successful in our move in spite of the errors made by various members of the team. It will be interesting to see your response to our opening gambit. Needless to say, we have not followed a traditional path so far, doubtful we will in the future. You shall see what surprises we have in store for you next turn. We will save the A-10 Warthogs for a later turn though.

As always, enjoying the banter.

Carl

nom de guerre

For this event, I chose the name of one of the commanders of a regiment within the Green Brigade of Gustavus Adolphus' Swedish Army. The title of Baron is Munro's actual title of nobility.

If I had thought more about it at the beginning, I would have suggested to my team that we each take the name of someone famous and green, such as General Kermit, General Oscar, and of course, General Hulk.

Thankful

I am more thankful everyday that we are on the same team. Thanks for the picture John. Time for fun and games is over, we need to lay plans for the demise of the green team. Maybe we will get lucky and take her as a prize!

The Wicked Witch is Dead!!!!

I have vague memories of a bunch of little people running around singing Ding Dong, The Witch is Dead, The witch is Dead. Very threatening picture. Everyone was playing nice until now. Glenda the Good Witch will have to save us. The Wizard has already given me a brain. Used it to come up with the moves used against you. Kept using it for the moves that are upcoming. I rather enjoyed the green woman, the wicked witch not so much. You have the name game down pat, let's work on the pictures of women you scare up.

Thanks,

Carl

We picked up Baba Yaga while traveling in the east.

Trembling

I am trembling not from fear but from chuckling. Must admit I like She Hulk much better than this Yabba Dabba Doo character.

Carl

It is dangerous to mock Baba Yaga

Baba Yaga lives in a house with giant chicken legs and a hidden door and has a fence that is topped with human skulls. She flies using a magical mortar and pestle and also has a silver broom.

Von Gottes Gnaden König von Preußen

No Insult Intended

No insult was intended, although i must admit I did not even realize this person was a female. Interesting living arrangements. Do not believe I have any desire to pay her a visit. I think I will keep my visiting confined to places I am aware of, maybe somewhere like Varasdin. Hope the weather is nice there this time of year. I hope the food is good also. Maybe we will get lucky and She Hulk will be in town, she is certainly much more of a visual treat than that mortar and pestle
woman who flies around on a silver broom.

Welcome to the small city of Varasdin

I'm glad you didn't pass up the chance for a visit. We have been waiting.

It is rumored that some of your troops' skulls have been added to Baba Yaga's fence posts. Personally, I don't believe that the witch left Russia.

Von Gottes Gnaden König von Preußen

Teenage Wasteland

Is Baba Yaga any relation to Baba O'Reilly?

Баба Яга

Baba is Slavic for grandmother or old woman. Baba O'Riley is a reference to Indian musician Meher Baba and composer, Terry Riley, neither of whom are related to Yaga.

The Who

What a great band they were. Had the pleasure of seeing some of their wonderful concerts. Between British rock and Jewish Talmud First Gate Middle Gate Third Gate references, one could get quite lost. We have had everything from She Hulk, Glenda the Good Witch to Baba O'Reilly. One has got to love this community. Never dull, never!

Soft Spot

I always had a soft spot for her when I was young and impressionable! Thanks for bringing her up, brings back fond memories.

Just a quick reply to say I

Just a quick reply to say I have read this message. Actually got lost to start with. Good to know now. Thanks

Just to say it has listed me as a veteran but I consider a veteran to be someone who has served on active duty. I have not served in a combat zone and therefore consider myself to be just an ex-serviceman. Ta!

banner

I see your banner and I tremble. Not from fear, but it is trembling...
Sam

You have done Well!

Mr. What in the SamHill is going on? I offer my congrats for a job well done. Your team has been rather impressive from the get go.
Carl

Citrucel

What in the samhill is going on with you? Maybe you should take some of that English guy's Citrucel!!! Clean your system out, get recharged etc. etc. We wouldn't want whatever he caught from floating around on ships too long in NWOL3 spreading. Win or loose we would prefer our battles to be fair. No excuses of poor health from our opponents!! Enjoying the banter Mr. Hill!! Thanks for the fun.

citrucel

Laughter sir, laughter...I was trying to be polite and not laugh out loud...a banner with a pidgeon in the middle. It is kind of scary in a way. We will not park our horses under them for obvious reasons. By the way, I am the fellow scheduled to lead against you. So do be good and have some success. I have a reputation to make.
Sam Hill

The Laugh is on You!

Please be lulled into thinking that it is a pigeon on our banner. Your horses will look fine under our banners when we capture them. You are unfortunate to have to go up against the experienced captains of our great legion. Hopefully your reputation will not take too big a hit when we tattoo a big "L" on your forehead. It is wise to be careful what you wish for. Samhill you wanted a tournament and now you have one. Do not be too distressed when our banner flies over your city, our cavalry rides on your captured horses, and our artillery is strengthened by your captured guns. It is after all only practice for NWOL4!!!!!!

Regards,
The Black Legion

Unfortunate

"Unfortunate"?, hardly, I checked the rosters very carefully and chose your team for that particular reason-"experienced captains". Please be successful, The captains on my team are very, very good as well. Again, I wish you great success, no reputation is build by taking out a losing team. You will recall I ask for a one on one tournament but happily I am surrounded by stout and pleasant fellows. So, peace be upon you until we meet.
Would you like your portraits done as I did for the red team? I am sure something agreeable can be done. I shall work on it another time but am certain I can catch the likenesses.
Not a pidgeon? Perhaps a turtledove, a crow or sparrow with thyroid problems?
Peaced be upon you. I turn my attention to the Reds now.
Sam Hill

Appreciate the offer but will pass

Your portrait work does little for me, so I will pass on the offer. I wish your team success as well as long as it is not against the Black Legion. I for one never wanted a one on one tournament as I am fully aware that my skills donn't match those of many in the NWOL world. But I do welcome the opportunity to gain further knowledge from them so I ca be that much more competitive in NWOL4. Our little exchange of barbs has been fun, it is time for us all to concentrate our energies on combat. I am sure the verbal jousting will start back up soon enough.

Regards,

Carl

Black Legion Typo

Oh goodness. The depths that grammar and spelling have fallen to in these dark ages. Are there no proofreaders in Germany?

I believe that the post from the Black Legion should read "you will not fear", vice "you will know fear".

Perhaps the message was written by a Scotsman, as in "Ye will no fear, laddie?"

My 2 pfennigs worth.

King Dave I of Kassel

Two pfennigs

I am not so sure your input was worth 2 pfennigs but I will give you a nod none the less. Quite a flattering picture of yourself. Have you injured yourself while picking your nose? You English are such an uptight bunch I would have thought you would not be able to engage in such behavior. Pinky fingers sticking out straight way too often and such!! HAHA Enjoying the banter!!!!!

Thanks for the note, I'll stop taking my Citrucel.....

Endorsing Cit

Does anyone else see the humor in William L. Orange endorsing Citrocel? Are you a paid spokesman? HAHA Just a little bit of fun!!

Re: Black Legion - New Player (Jordan Hrabovsky)

This is where I would like to see you put a comment Jordan!!!!!

Phillip & Bob

As new players you need to get in the habit of reading the posts and posting yourselves. I am looking for your responses here.

I am back

Hi guys:
just to let the TEAM know I am back from my operation. I have been out of hospital for 6 weeks, still weak but it is coming along. Another 6 weeks and I should be nearly as good as the pev. OLD GUY?LOL

looking forward to continuing my learnibg experience in NWOL. For those that dont know, I was a member of the British team in NWOL #3

cheers

Bob Scott

Good

Glad to see that both you and Phillip pulled this off. Thanks for the follow through. We will be assigning units and finalizing our battle plan shortly. Continue to work on the things I have told you about so that you are prepared for this round. We are taking on the Green Team. They are hungry for a win. Mark Cole, their War Minister and I started in NWOL together. We both commanded frags in NWOL3 and have been in friendly competition ever since. I am sure he would like to get his first win against us. I would prefer that they wait another round.

Carl

unsettled business

Now we can get some resolution to the war between the Sachsen Kingdom and the Palatinate that was started but not finished in NWOL 3. I hope you don't take as long this time marching to meet us as the Prussians north of Erfurt did then. I waited 3 turns for them to arrive and they never made it to the city. By the time they finally got moving, my army had moved on and they ended up fighting my loyal Bavarian allies.

Von Gottes Gnaden König von Preußen

Business at Hand

Ah Baron, I was unaware that we had unsettled business. NWOL3 is old news and I have moved past it. Apparently that is not the case with you. I have heard rumors that you were most interested in this round of the tournament. Now I see why.

As to Saschen and the Palatinate. I believe the Palatinate won a campaign in NWOL3 and I am satisfied that I learned the basics of being the Monarch of a Frag. If the opportunity presents itself in NWOL4 I would welcome it again. I readily admit I was in way over my head the first time, now I might be a little more of a success.

To the present. It appears that we have both managed to become WM for our respective teams. Once again, I am using this as a learning experience to better prepare myself for NWOL4. I have been lucky enough to have been paired with Ben Seib, Roger Plazceck and John Vanvark who have been most kind in sharing their knowledge. These highly experienced players have been using this tournament as a school and I for one have learned quite a bit. Probably explains why we have so many new players, because we are taking the time to teach them. This particular round, Ben and Roger are on vacation. Obviously two of the better players in the NWOL world. We have also brought three newbies into this round. Jordan, Phillip and Scott will no doubt do their best and will learn a great deal this round.

We shall see how this round progresses. Your team has some great players and your team has moved from loosing to fighting a draw. I would imagine that this means you should win this round. Either way, it will be an good experience for our newbies and maybe you can move on from whatever baggage you are carrying from NWOL3. Best of Luck to you and we shall see which one of us is visiting the other's city in this round.

Carl
