DANG - reread rules again: "100 men and 1 battery cost 30 for HA, 25 for MA, and 20 for LA. Adding batteries to infantry costs as MA, to cavalry counts as LA."
My submitted rebuild:
strength: 3863
batts: 1
unitid1: GS79IN
GS79IN was 2363 / 0; paid 60cr for 1500 men (2363IN + 1500IN = 3863IN)and 25cr for art battery (0 batt + 1 Batt = 1 batt.) Will the rebuilt unit become 3863 / 1 ???
Or should the requested strength now be 3963 (2363IN + 1500IN + 100 men from art batt = 3963) ??
Charlie
Men and batteries are separate
You buy the men and the batteries separately. So the unit should become 3863/1.
A cleanup of the rules on this is on my to-do list. The financial information is not entirely consistent.

A TM help program?
Many are having trouble with reinforcements. Rewriting this section can be of great value for items such as SA have not been addressed as to reinforcement cost.
However, if going through that effort to update. Would it be feasible, valuable??? to have a TM Xcell spreadsheet that can be used by players to figure out their unit build, reinforcement cost? Something like present unit strength, thus 0 if building, and final proposed strength. Of course there will have to be something like unit type. However, if units can be listed sequentiality then a total cost of building units or reinforcing units or even combining the two can be totaled.

example
I hope for your sake that that unit GS79IN you gave in your example was just an example and not the actual unit you tried to increase. GS79IN is a Green Guards unit and not one of the Yellow Brigade's.
