Me, but...

That'd be my forces, but I humbly and modestly disclaim any influence over the results. Echoing what Nick said, it was the one bright spot in an otherwise dismal report...

I salute you!Bravo!Bravo!

Better late than never

I think the game was just feeling sorry for us and wanted to give us at least one victory in this match. :-)

We were outplayed in this match and the worst part was that you keep dangling the possibility of victory in front of us so we would keep on committing troops only to have the rug pulled out from under us every time.

Good game gentlemen.

who was that general?

Seriously, Charlie is right. Who was that general? I actually propose he be given a special ribbon (the order of Napoleon), for the accomplishment.

battle

Actually the thing to do would be to go find the brigadier commanding the GS9HA gun line for Yellow and shoot him. Having three batteries of heavy guns pull out of the battle line in the firing phase was a big part of the result.

GS9HA

I agree that the GS9HA actions did not help. That unit prior to this turn however had been rock steady in the field:

GS9HA (Yellow Regiment)
Commander: David Middleton Deputy: King Frederick
Location: M3-T2 strategic, 6-8 tactical : Withdrawal move permitted
Strength: 357 Batteries: 3
Quality: Fair Experience: 22 Morale: 70 Fatigue: 6
Supplies: 1 Ammunition: 2
Supply: GS13CQ Communications: Chernigov
Last turn's orders sent by David Middleton at Tue Jul 20 19:45:04 2010 (server time)

It seems we have a large number of ART units retreating / routing. Don't know if there is any way to look at a larger sample of combats to get accurate data. And don't know if it would prove to be higher or lower than expected for this time period.

interesting

They only took 29 casualties in the shooting phase. I guess the officers must have all gone down at once.

I have seen long odds upsets

I have seen long odds upsets before.(1:2 being the worst) It seems to happen more often then it should, but it probably only seems so. Also seems to happen at the worst/best possible times. Oh yes it does.

other factors

I was wondering what other factors were involved, e.g. ratings, morale, fatigue, experience of the units involved, if any of the attacking units were out of ammo, and what the defense rating was in that square. Maybe that information could be posted after the last game so that it wouldn't give away too much now before the final round.

I will keep an eye out for those units in the next game for certain.

The odds that you see are

The odds that you see are already taking those factors into account. When all the factors are added though it still possible to win an upset. I don't count on anything less then 2:1 and even then you could still lose but it should be fairly rare at that point.

curious about actual numbers

I was wondering about some of the actual numbers. When planning for the defense of our city this last round, I was concerned at the "stack" of numbers going against some of our units. Some of our units were still relatively green and had below average troops ratings. Added to this was the fact that morale carries over from game to game so units that lost a major fight or were near our city when it fell last game ahd morale in the 20s (-10% penalty). Units that had shattered and destroyed or were captured started the round with a 5 morale (-15% penalty). If one of these unit happened to end up in a 0 or 1 defensive rated square, then it could start off off with more than a 50% penalty even with 0 fatigue.
