NWOL-2 Postgame Discussion

This forum is for the discussion by the players of events that occurred during NWOL2 (Summer 2008-Winter 2009) and for use by the NWOL designer to have a venue for discussion of design or product improvement issues.

Income and manpower

I am getting close to setting the NWOL-3 start values for income, treasuries, and manpower.

In NWOL-1, incomes were 25/30/35 per level for cities, port cities, and colonies respectively. Treasuries started with one year's income (before any purchases were made) and manpower was 25,000 per city.

New game end conditions

I have updated the rules on game end conditions. Now, only France can vanquish another nation, and Spain is a major nation. The game ends if France vanquishes four other major nations, or Britain and any other two. This means if France ignores Britain, they have to vanquish Austria, Prussia, Russia, and Spain, but if they can get Britain, then any two of the others are sufficient (Spain and Prussia would perhaps be easiest). This seems to provide France with a pretty good incentive to go after Britain at some point, since it is equal in value to any two of the others in terms of winning.

Revised fragmented states rules

I have put in the rules changes about creating new states. In brief:

NWOL-3 changes beginning

I am starting to implement the code changes needed for NWOL-3. I am hoping to get this done by mid-October, though that may be a little optimistic. I will use this forum to report progress and solicit player feedback.

I am keeping a master list of changes, which is at

http://www.holf.org/NWOL/ruleschanges.html

I'll discuss individual changes as they get made in separate topics.

First round proposal for NWOL-3 changes

I have sorted through all the discussion of changes for NWOL-3, and listed every suggestion made. Where some were incompatible (eg, ban British-French alliances vs. make Britain pay a 20% VP penalty for allying with France) I have picked one or the other. I have eliminated suggestions that either I don't like, or that are too complex to do before NWOL-3 (the national goals suggestion is in this category). What's left is 25 suggestions. This forum is for commentary on those suggestions. I will eventually produced a revised list and then get down to work.

Nick's Blog- National Goals: UK and France

This is mostly for my own edification, but I figured I would post my first stab at some of my national goals ideas and see what people have to say. This is mostly planning for my pre-NWOL4 arguments. These are pretty rough and the fine details would have to be worked out in a fair manner. There are several numbers I have left as an X since I haven't figured out exactly how many cites should be taken etc.

I have started with the goals for Britain and France.
