Scenario A was an NWOL-based hypothetical scenario pitting two very balanced and competing Italian fragmented states, Piedmont and Venice, against one another. The two sides fought for control of a number of Italian cities sandwiched in-between the two states and nominally under the control of the decaying Italian state of Lombardy (controlled by the GA). The scenario was designed for (but not limited to) newer NWOL players who could take on added command roles for preparation for NWOL3.
The conflict was one sided from the start. Venice seized the initiative right off the bat by taking Bologna in T1 and fanning out to control all six Lombardian cities before Piedmont took Livorno (T4) from them. After both sides fought some back-and forth battles in Lombardy over the next few turns (with Venice appearing to get the upper hand), the Venetians turned their attention to the Piedmont home cities. Venetian troops snared Genova and Nice before the Summer campaign started, and then the Venetians crushed the Piedmont army at Milano (T11). Venice methodically wore down the remainder of the Piedmontese army and occupied Turin and Toulon over the remainder of the war. By game's end, all 15 cities in play were under the possession of the Venetian Republic, and the scattered remains of the Piedmont forces were in full retreat.
